A viral traffic stop video posted to social media earlier this year led to calls for changes to police search policies. After reviewing the full body camera footage of the incident, the mayor is standing by the police department.

Greensboro police issued the statement after hearing concerns in several community meetings with Chief John Thompson.

Friends and family shared memories at the service for Horan, who was killed in the line of duty in December.

Greensboro Police Capt. Ashley Brown says one of the reasons for the decline is stronger partnerships — everything from federal agencies to local anti-violence organizations.

Officer Michael Horan was killed in the line of duty at a Food Lion on Lawndale Drive around 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 23. Tarell Isaac McMillian, 34, of Greensboro, has been charged with first-degree murder.

The officer involved in the shooting incident has been placed on administration duty. Greensboro Police Department says it will conduct an internal investigation to determine if policies were followed.
