The race for the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is a crowded one this year, with a total of nine candidates vying for seats.

Three of the four Democrats competing for District B are running as part of a candidate slate: Valerie Brockenbrough, Kendall Fields, and Marsie West.

In a campaign video, West said this is because they share similar platforms, with each valuing public education, transparency in government, and access to affordable housing.

Democrat Curtis Fentress is running for District B separate from the slate. He’s a marketing director who says his top priority is ensuring the county’s public schools are fully funded.

They’re competing for three spots on the general election ballot. The winners will face off against the three Republicans who earn their party’s nominations after the primary.

Two of the five candidates competing for those slots are incumbents: Richard Linville and Gloria Whisenhunt. They both told the Winston-Salem Journal they’re prioritizing public safety and fiscal responsibility. They’ll face newcomers Terri Mrazek, Ralf Walters, and Gray Wilson, who cited similar priorities.

Incumbent Dave Plyler will also appear on the ballot, but he announced plans to retire earlier this year.
