Winston-Salem-based Housing Justice Now is hosting its first city council and mayoral candidate forum this week.

Dan Taylor, a volunteer with the group, says it’s important for those running to share their thoughts on housing issues before the March 5 primary.

“We've seen housing prices go up, we've seen rents go up. And you know, a lot faster than wages have gone up, if they've gone up at all," Taylor said. "So it's really produced this situation where there's a lot of housing insecurity. There's been an increase in homelessness.”

Taylor says candidates will explain why they’re running for office and detail possible solutions for housing issues in Winston-Salem. Then they’ll answer questions from a moderator.

The forum will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. at Winston-Salem State University’s New Sciences Building, room 225. Voters from all wards are invited to attend.
