Housing Justice Now

A Winston-Salem-based housing rights group is hosting a city council and mayoral candidate forum this week. 

Around 40 tenants and housing activists of a downtown housing complex gathered at a Housing Authority of Winston-Salem, or HAWS, meeting Tuesday to protest delayed repairs.

Winston-Salem officials are ordering tenants at two city-owned buildings to leave their homes indefinitely so repairs can be made.

Housing advocates are calling attention to eviction policies in Forsyth County as part of a statewide campaign called “Housing is a Human Right.”
