New crosstown bus route coming to Greensboro could give residents more access to jobs

A new crosstown bus route coming to Greensboro next year could potentially give more than 147,000 people more access to jobs.

In a presentation to officials on Thursday, Greensboro Transit Director Reginald Mason said a new bus line has not been added since 1946. He said that the new service will be a game changer for the city and its residents.

"Our aim with this particular route is to give folks a one-seat ride, a one-seat ride across town," he said.

It will travel from Guilford Technical Community College in east Greensboro to West Wendover Avenue. The nine buses will run every 15 minutes from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and then every 30 minutes until midnight.

The change will cost around $2 million a year. It will be funded by a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant for the first three years.

According to the presentation, the new line will serve as a priority route during inclement weather.

It is expected to go into service in March.
