The Guilford County Democratic Party voted for Brandon Gray to represent District Six on the board of commissioners.

He joined the virtual meeting Monday for nomination.

"I really appreciate everyone being here tonight and for your trust in me to be our next county commissioner. So, thank you," Gray said.

According to his website, Gray is a Guilford County native and small business owner.

His nomination is to fill the seat of former commissioner James Upchurch, whose term was expected to end in 2024. Upchurch resigned earlier this month for an out-of-state opportunity.

The board of commissioners will next vote on the nomination. If Gray is approved, Democrats would have seven seats and Republicans two.

The next scheduled meeting for the board is on Thursday.
