City of Winston-Salem conveys four lots to Habitat for Humanity

The City of Winston Salem recently gifted Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County land for the development of low-income housing.

At its meeting last month, the Winston-Salem City Council adopted a resolution conveying four vacant lots in the Cleveland Avenue Neighborhood to Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County.

The resolution passed unanimously. Northeast Ward Councilwoman Barbara Hanes Burke recused herself.

Before retaining homeownership, enrolled families must meet certain criteria such as completing courses in financial literacy.

It’s an area that was already planned for increased affordable housing through the city’s Choice Neighborhood Initiative.

The more than $40 million project is being paid for with federal and city dollars and will result in hundreds of new housing units in the Cleveland Avenue Neighborhood.
