Officers shot and killed a South Carolina man after they say he fired shots at law enforcement during a chase that began in Forsyth County.
The incident began just after 2 a.m. Monday when Winston-Salem officers got word that someone had allegedly fired shots at Forsyth County deputies and they were chasing the suspect’s vehicle.
According to a police report, the suspect continued firing when police joined the pursuit, hitting more than one patrol vehicle. The suspect’s truck crashed and rolled on eastbound U.S. 421 near Peace Haven Road.
The suspect reportedly came out brandishing a rifle and officers fired. He died.
Police have identified him as 29-year-old Alexander Parks Holland from Charleston, South Carolina.
Two Winston-Salem officers — J.C. Lancaster and A.J. Perrell – have been placed on administrative leave and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading a probe of the incident. Those are standard procedures when officers fire upon a suspect.
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was treated and released for injuries. No other injuries have been reported.
