Winston-Salem State University chancellor to step down

The chancellor of Winston-Salem State University is preparing to step down.

Elwood Robinson, who has served as chancellor since 2015, announced plans to retire in June in a statement Monday.

Robinson presided over several capital projects at the historically Black university, including two residence halls, and a new sciences building. In his statement, he also touted the school’s record graduate student population and endowment, which more than tripled during his tenure.

He was at the helm when the university received a $30M donation from Mackenzie Scott, the largest gift in the school’s history.

Current Provost Anthony Graham will serve as interim chancellor while a search for a permanent replacement is conducted.
