Tuesday is Election Day for Greensboro city races

WFDD FILE PHOTO

Tuesday is municipal election day for Greensboro voters.

Early voting started slowly but picked up steam by the end, with the highest number coming on the last day, Saturday.

In all, more than 12,000 people made their choices for mayor and city council during the early voting period.

Also on the ballot are five bond referenda that would allow the city to borrow up to $135 million for facilities and projects.

All council incumbents are on the nonpartisan general election ballot. But there will be at least one change on the council. District 3 Councilman Justin Outling is challenging incumbent Nancy Vaughan for mayor, leaving his seat open.

Former Councilmember Zack Matheny is running unopposed for the seat.

Greensboro was among a handful of cities across the state with July elections or runoffs due to a delay in census data needed to draw political boundaries.
