A signature part of the downtown Greensboro landscape — the aerial sculpture at LeBauer Park — is back.
The sculpture is called “Where We Met” and is by artist Janet Echelman. The giant web of colorful netting that stretches across the sky was first installed in 2016 when LeBauer Park opened.
Every winter it's taken down to protect the installation from the elements and it goes back up in the spring. This year it's returned in a bright new color scheme. Amanda Miller with Greensboro Downtown Parks says this iteration involves lots of pinks and blues.
“The concept for this color development comes from the idea that our community is inherently going to change and develop over time and as such, this artwork — which is really based on Greensboro's history and identity — will also kind of change and develop over time,” says Miller.
The color scheme will be updated every five years over the next 15 years. Miller says the best time to see the sculpture is on a hazy night when it's illuminated by a series of pink lights.
