There's a new place in Greensboro where food businesses have access to kitchen space, shared equipment, and support as they grow; it's called The City Kitch.

The facility had its grand opening earlier this month.

It's designed for a variety of culinary needs — think a makerspace for foodies. There are industrial dishwashers, large prep areas, ranges, and more. Members can lease a private suite, or use an online system to reserve a prep area for a few hours. They can also get assistance navigating things like health guidelines and permits.

Janelle Collins is director of brand and communications at Red Hill Ventures, part of the ownership group for The City Kitch. She says this is also about creating a sense of community in an industry that can be isolating and challenging.

“What we see happen so much in our kitchen communities is that these food businesses work together, and they inspire each other, and they share a lot of their knowledge,” she says.

The new location is the third for The City Kitch, which also has two sites in Charlotte. The City Kitch Greensboro welcomes food businesses at every stage, and currently has over 20 members.
