More Vaccine Supply Headed To The Triad

More than 3,000 additional doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be delivered to the Triad each week over the next two months.

It's part of the extension of the FEMA hub site in Greensboro to increase access to the vaccine in the region.

The weekly allotment will be divided between three organizations that will administer the shots: Forsyth County Department of Public Health, Novant Health, and Wake Forest Baptist Health.

They will provide targeted community outreach events in Winston-Salem, High Point, and surrounding communities.

Joshua Swift, director of the Forsyth health department says the main focus will be on getting shots in the arms of more people in Black and Hispanic communities.

“Both hospitals will be working and doing clinics on-site at Winston-Salem State University, and then both hospitals plus the department of public health will be using doses to do outreach events in the community, all focused on historically marginalized populations,” he says.

Their plans also include providing outreach through mobile clinics and vaccination pop-up sites. Swift says in Forsyth County, nearly 20% of residents have had their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
