Forsyth County is gearing up for a mass vaccination clinic this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The event will use the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Appointments are fully booked according to Forsyth County Public Health Director Joshua Swift. He says the county and its health partners hope to vaccinate 8,400 people this weekend.

“This is collaboration between the health department, Novant Health, and Wake Forest Baptist Health. You will see staff from all three agencies, you will see volunteers from the community, National Guard, so it's going to be really a collaborative team effort we're very excited about.”

Swift says it will be the end of the month before the state gets another allocation of the Johnson & Johnson one-dose shots.

Between the three brands of vaccine available to the public, over 15 percent of Forsyth County residents have received their first dose.

The county is currently vaccinating those in Groups 1, 2, and 3. Eligibility opens on March 24 for those in Group 4 — adults at higher risk for exposure and increased risk of severe illness.
