Cone Health To Close Hospital Dedicated To COVID-19 Care

Cone Health is closing a hospital dedicated to treating COVID-19 patients.

The health system announced it will close its Green Valley facility on March 5, and transition COVID-19 care to other hospitals.

The 116-bed site opened April 13 of last year to handle an expected surge in COVID-19 cases. It had previously operated as a women's hospital.

In a press release, the facility's chief medical officer Dr. Brent McQuaid called the closure “a step on the journey to the pandemic's end.” But he said it's clear it's not over yet, and urged the public to remain vigilant.

Virus testing and a monoclonal antibody clinic will remain at the site even after patient care transitions elsewhere.

Cone Health has treated more than 4,700 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began — the majority at the Green Valley Campus.
