Greensboro-based Cone Health is working to get back on track after state supply issues forced it to cancel thousands of COVID-19 vaccine appointments last Friday.
Cone Health Chief Pharmacy Officer DeAnne Brooks says employees have spent much of this week contacting the 10,400 affected patients.
“We had to add in additional resources to be able to call all of our patients and speak with them," says Brooks. "We're not really rescheduling yet, but we have a list that we will be prioritizing based on who already had one scheduled.”
Brooks says they have been in contact with the state and have gotten some clarification about distribution plans moving forward. She says Cone Health is now guaranteed to get the same amount of vaccine supply for the next three weeks.
State Health Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen and Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper have pinned the recent vaccine instability on the federal government. Some local officials, in turn, have criticized the state for creating a distribution system they say is ever-changing, poorly communicated, and inequitable.
