More people are flying out of Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro. That's according to data presented at a Winston-Salem city council meeting Tuesday.

PTI Executive Director Kevin Baker told the council passenger travel increased by 15 percent last year. Cargo was up 35 percent over the same time period.

“It's the first time we've been through a million passengers since 2008," he says. "So this is a really huge milestone for us to get back.”

Baker also pointed to recent renovations of airport public spaces. He says further upgrades are in the works.

PTI employs nearly 6,000 people, making it the sixth-largest employer in the Triad.
