Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Approve New SRO Contracts

Winston-Salem Forsyth County school district has finalized new contracts for school resource officers in the coming school year.

The renewal comes amid increased concerns over safety in the wake of high-profile school shootings.

The district will spend several million dollars on school resource officers from three different law enforcement agencies.

That includes about two dozen officers and supervisors from the Winston-Salem Police Department, and roughly another dozen from Kernersville and the sheriff's department.

While the number of officers is staying the same this year, the cost of the contracts with Winston-Salem and Kernersville increased slightly.

According to the Winston-Salem Journal, the county board of education has also allotted money to install front door buzzers at its middle schools. The district elementary schools already had those precautions in place.
