Leaders of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee held a press conference Wednesday on possible Russian influence in last year's election. Senators Richard Burr and Mark Warner used the opportunity to assure the public of the seriousness of their bipartisan efforts.
The committee has already identified 20 people who will be questioned on the matter. Burr says it's one of the biggest investigations he's seen since he's been in Congress. And he says the scope of the investigation will go wherever the intelligence leads.
“So it is absolutely crucial that everyday we spend trying to separate fact from fiction, and to find some intelligence thread that sends us to the factual side of all the names, and all the places that you in this room have written about.”
The committee's first public hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Burr says it will focus on Russia's capability to influence elections globally, including what the country may have done in the past.
