Report: MSNBC Host Melissa Harris-Perry Will Not Sign 'Gag Order'

According to CNN Money, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry is currently in negotiations to leave her show and is rejecting an exit package with the network.

Harris-Perry says she will not sign what's called a non-disparagement clause, describing it as a "gag order".  It was announced on Sunday that Harris-Perry will leave MSNBC, citing the preemption of her program during February as the reason.

James Perry, Harris-Perry's husband and negotiator with MSNBC, told CNN that the agreement would only allow Harris-Perry to speak about the network if it was "positive or in her academic work."

Harris-Perry says that the cancellation of her show "has strong racial implications." She took to Twitter Tuesday, criticizing MSNBC's lack of diversity.

Yvette Miley, MSNBC senior vice president of talent and diversity, told CNN that Harris-Perry's show was preempted to focus on elections.

"MSNBC is the place for politics, and as we're covering 2016 part of that coverage meant that we were going to look for opportunities during the course of 2016 to really focus on the race for the White House," Miley said. "There were preemptions that impacted shows across the network."

Harris-Perry has hosted her show since 2012. She is also an author and professor at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.
