Alexander Smirnov has been accused of making false statements to the FBI — claims that House Republicans have used in their probe of President Biden.
Alexander Smirnov falsely told FBI agents in 2020 that executives associated with the Ukrainian energy company Burisma paid Hunter and Joe Biden $5 million each in 2015 or 2016, prosecutors said.
The House Oversight Committee announced Thursday that the two parties have agreed for Hunter Biden to sit for a deposition on Feb. 28.
The development comes as House Republicans inch closer to a vote to officially begin an impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
Republicans have spent the hearing interrogating Merrick Garland over the investigations into Hunter Biden and former President Donald Trump.
The president's son was indicted last week after a plea deal with federal prosecutors fell apart.
Hunter Biden claims the IRS unlawfully released his confidential tax return information. Among other things, Biden is seeking $1,000 for each unauthorized disclosure and attorneys fees.
