Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Beverly Emory is leaving her job. She gave her resignation to the Board of Education during a special meeting on Friday.

Emory will join the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as the new Director of District and Regional Support. State Superintendent Mark Johnson was on hand to announce the news.

Emory told members of the board that she will work with them in whatever way possible to ensure a smooth and successful transition of leadership. She says serving the local school system has been a lifetime honor and the decision to leave was extremely difficult.

Emory joined the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system in March of 2013 as the system's sixth superintendent. She came to Forsyth County from Pitt County Schools, where she also served as superintendent.
