Bill Smith
Random FaKtor 2.

Random FaKtor 2

Bill Smith is a percussionist whose far-flung influences have led him down the musical path less taken. He is known for his use of various cymbals and gongs to create meditative drones. In the group Random FaKtor 2, his improvised percussion is augmented and manipulated electronically. He plays homemade and traditional instruments alongside multi-instrumentalist musical partner Glenn Fin.

Random FaKtor 2 is playing Saturday, November 7th at Krankies. It's an evening of experimental music, and rounding out the bill are Spool Ensemble and Knives of Spain. Doors are at 8pm, show is at 9pm.

Bill Smith spoke with Triad Arts producer David Ford about musically bucking the status quo.

Declan O'Rourke

Irish singer/songwriter Declan O'Rourke is currently on tour for the release of his fourth studio album, Gold Bars in the Sun. The album includes songs such as "Yellow Moon" and "Let's Make Big Love" featuring John Prine and the Milk Spots. Declan serenaded an audience at the Community Arts Cafe last year, and on Thursday, November 12th, he'll be returning to Winston-Salem for a show at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts.

O'Rourke is a well-established name in the Irish music scene. His debut single "Galileo" has been recorded and performed by many artists including Josh Groban and Paul Weller. Weller has said of O'Rourke, "He writes the sort of classic songs that people don't write anymore, songs that sound like they've been around forever."

Declan's performance at the Mountcastle Forum in the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts will begin at 7:30pm, and tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Declan will again be joined by the Guvner's Band with Tony Williamson, Walter Holton, Katherine Ririe, Nathan Scott, and Ron Wilson.

Declan spoke with Bethany from the road prior to his first performance in Winston-Salem.

The highly theatrical and often playful style of Keigwin + Company is being presented as part of the Secrest Artist Series at Brendle Recital Hall. The program starts at 7:30 on November 12th at Brendle Recital Hall.  Larry will also be giving a free pre-performance talk at 6:40pm.

Larry Keigwin spoke with Triad Art's David Ford.
