New NC Poll Shows Dip In Democratic Leaders' Job Approval Ratings

A new statewide poll shows sagging approval numbers for both Democratic President Joe Biden and Governor Roy Cooper.

According to the High Point University poll, North Carolinians gave Biden an overall job approval rating of 38%, down 13 points from February. Cooper's dipped slightly to 45%. More than half of the respondents said the country is on the wrong track.

Martin Kifer directs the HPU Survey Research Center. He says when it comes to Biden's polling it depends on the issue.

"It appears that, COVID-19, people are feeling the best about his performance, and when it gets to the military conflict in Afghanistan — how it was brought to an end — that appears to be his lowest overall rating," says Kifer."So, in terms of how people are thinking about him, there are different issues that they bring to that evaluation."

The poll was conducted by live interviewers at the center, and an online survey was fielded at the same time. Results came from a sample of all North Carolina counties from nearly 900 respondents.
