The 5-year-old victim in a drive-by shooting over the weekend has been identified.

The boy's name was Alberto Rios Navarrete and he was killed at the Cole Village Apartments on July 6th.

The child was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for emergency surgery but succumbed to his injuries.

Three teenagers including 17-year-old Oscar Mendez-Rodriguez are in custody, held with no bond allowed. The others are 14 and 15-year old juveniles.

Police Lieutenant Gregory Dorn told the Winston-Salem Journal that the shooting was not random, but that the victim was not intentionally targeted. Investigators believe there was a group of individuals targeted, but have not indicated a motive.
