North Carolina A&T turns 125 years old this month. The Greensboro-based university threw itself a birthday bash on Thursday.

It was a landmark Founders Day at A&T.

One highlight was a visit from new UNC president Margaret Spellings, who is making of tour of each state university during her first three months on the job.

The News and Record of Greensboro reports Spellings was given a tour of the Fort IRC Building, where A&T researchers do most of their cutting-edge work.

Governor Pat McCrory also showed up, saying that A&T can help lead the way for North Carolina to compete in the world economy in the next 100 years.

A new 88-foot clock tower was dedicated.

And at the end of the day, the school opened up its football stadium and hosted the campus and community for food and fireworks.
