Cooper Out-Raises McCrory In Latest Campaign Fundraising Report

Democrat Roy Cooper (left) and incumbent Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.

With the November elections just under four months away, new fundraising numbers are in for North Carolina's gubernatorial candidates, with challenger Roy Cooper once again out-raising incumbent Pat McCrory.

The Cooper campaign says it raised $5.1 million in the past four months, with 75% percent of those contributions under $100.

Meanwhile, incumbent Pat McCrory collected $3.1 million over the same period.

While this is the first report to take the controversial House Bill 2 into account, Cooper has consistently out-raised McCrory since early 2015. Cooper's campaign also has more cash on hand than McCrory's.

Despite the financial disparity, the Real Clear Politics average of polling shows the two candidates in a virtual tie. This race is expected to be among the most expensive gubernatorial contests this year.
