CommScope to invest $60M for 250-job expansion in Catawba County

Gov. Roy Cooper announced Tuesday that telecommunications company CommScope will add 250 jobs with a $60 million investment in Catawba County.

The infrastructure provider based in Hickory plans to expand its manufacturing operations in the area.

The project will upgrade Catawba County facilities to increase fiber optic cable production.

The average annual wage for the new positions will be more than $57,000. The average salary in Catawba County is around $52,000.

According to a news release, the impact of these positions could result in more than $14 million into the community each year. The expansion is supported by the North Carolina Department of Commerce's Job Development Investment Grant.

According to the news release, the investment is expected to grow the state's economy by more than $830 million over the course of the 12-year grant.
