David Holt

This week, host Paul Brown visits with performer, folklorist and roots music evangelist David Holt.  David’s latest TV series is titled David Holt’s State of Music.  In its second season, it’s going national on PBS, with penetration into major U.S. markets.  David Holt talks about how traditional music has changed as society has changed, and how he’s presenting it now compared to what he’s done in the past.  He also calls it good medicine for the soul, and he’s every bit as enthusiastic about it today as he was 40 years ago.  On this show we hear from musicians as varied as bluegrass fiddler Benny Jarrell gospel singers The Cooke Duet and The Silvertone Gospel Harmonizers, and blues player Etta Baker.  We hear cuts from new releases by The Happy Valley Pals and Jason and Pharis Romero, plus selections from David Holt’s appearance with keyboardist Jeff Little and Will & Deni McIntyre in Winston-Salem, NC.
