Across the Blue Ridge #108 - Winter Listening, Labor and Work Songs, and More

Paul Brown
The Blue Ridge Mountains, home to great music traditions, from Big Walker Overlook, US Highway 52, in southwest Virginia, 2017.

This week we bring you some fine listening across styles for those cold winter days and nights.  Fiddler Chubby Wise kicks things off and from there the music keeps rolling with classic songs such as  Roving Gambler and interesting settings of fiddle tunes including Stony Point rendered by a band called The Skeleton Keys.  In the middle, some work songs and labor-oriented songs, reflecting the current nearly full employment in the U.S. – without a concomitant increase in wages for working folks that often comes with an expanding work force.   Love songs from old-time to bluegrass carry most of the third segment of this ATBR episode.
