  • To Lauren, nothing feels more like home than public radio. The child of two Navy captains, she moved frequently all over the country. Public radio was a rare consistency in her childhood, connecting her to her community and the world. Now a twelve-year resident of Greensboro, she is delighted to be chairing the WFDD Community Advisory Board. Lauren has over a decade of experience in communications and strategic planning with Lincoln Financial Group. Currently Lauren is an active community volunteer and activist, and a proud mother and step-mother. Term expires December 31, 2020
  • Sean Bueter joined WFDD in August 2015 as a reporter covering issues across the Piedmont Triad and beyond.Previously, Sean was a reporter, host and news director at WBOI in Fort Wayne, Ind., just a few hours from where he grew up. He also sorted Steve Inskeep's mail as an intern at NPR in Washington, D.C.Sean has experience on a variety of beats, including race, wealth and poverty, economic development, and more. His work has appeared on NPR's Morning Edition and All Things Considered, and APM's Marketplace.In his spare time, Sean plays tennis (reasonably well), golf (reasonably poorly), and scours local haunts for pinball machines to conquer.
  • Kami Chavis is a Professor of Law and Director of the Criminal Justice Program at Wake Forest University School of Law. In 2015, she was appointed as a Senior Academic Fellow at the Joint Center for Political And Economic Studies. She has substantial practice experience and writes and teaches in areas related to criminal law, criminal procedure and criminal justice reform. After receiving her J.D. from Harvard Law School, she worked as an associate at private law firms in Washington, D.C., where she participated in various aspects of civil litigation, white-collar criminal defense, and internal investigations. In 2003, she became an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, involving her in a wide range of criminal prosecutions and in arguing and briefing appeals before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Professor Chavis frequently makes presentations on law-enforcement issues and is a leader in the field of police accountability. Her articles have appeared in the American Criminal Law Review, the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law, The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, the University of Alabama Law Review, the Catholic University Law Review, and other legal journals. Her research focuses on using Cooperative Federalism principles and stakeholder participation to implement sustainable reforms in the criminal justice system. She writes in the areas of police and prosecutorial accountability, federal hate crimes legislation and enforcement, and racial profiling. She was elected to the American Law Institute in 2012.She is a frequent contributor to national and international media outlets and has appeared on CNN, CTV, and NPR. She has written for the New York Times and the Huffington Post, and has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, BBC News, U.S. News and World Report, International Business Times, Deutsche Welle, and other outlets regarding police accountability and the structural reform of law enforcement agencies.
  • Alexis Gines-Hoyes is from Greensboro and earned her B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While reporting for a local newspaper and volunteering as a tutor for a local library, Alexis discovered a love for teaching. She earned her teacher certification at Greensboro College, and now thoroughly enjoys teaching English to high school students. She has had the opportunity to teach English Literature in India, attend a summer education program in England, and experience a professional development immersion experience in Costa Rica. She is proud of the opportunity her students have had to work with WFDD Radio 101 program. Alexis currently teaches Multicultural Literature, English III and Advanced Placement English Language and Composition. She is currently pursuing her M.A. in English with a concentration in Multicultural and Transnational Literature at East Carolina University. Her hobbies include traveling, reading, outdoor activities, creative writing, and starting conversations with “Did you hear on NPR…”.Term expires December 31, 2023.
  • Sonsera Kiger was thrilled to join the WFDD team in January 2020 as the Listener and Donor Services Manager. She is originally from the mountains of North Carolina, but has made her home in many places in the world, including, most recently, Chile. She completed her undergraduate degree in Spanish, with minors in International Relations and in Women's Studies, at UNC-Asheville; she was designated as an Undergraduate Research Scholar, and published research based in Mexico. She completed her MA at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, and Italy, and published research on the impact of solar energy in emerging economic sectors. She has worked in non-profits for many years, as well as been a start-up founder in marketing and design in three countries. She has been a fan of WFDD since her teens, where Performance Today introduced her to a world of global music concerts, and 88.5 continued to keep her connected to North Carolina, no matter where in the world she was. In her free time, she volunteers in a community garden, travels, learns languages, reads, and listens to NPR!
  • Jan Hampton recently retired from Hanesbrands, where she was Senior Copy Manager, primarily for ecommerce, promoting the sales of everything from bras to English muffins. Previously she was Vice President of Marketing at United Way of Greater Greensboro, encompassing publications, special events and communications. She worked for the Winston papers after graduating from Wake Forest University where she edited the student newspaper. Jan lives in Kernersville and is an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church there. A native of the Washington DC area, she has lived in the Triad for more than 40 years. Her passions include travel, sports, literature, politics, and public radio. In the fall of 2019, Jan and her husband Wade took a 10,000+ mile trip around America in a Prius, primarily visiting National Parks.Term expires December 31, 2022.
  • Tom Ricciardi joined the staff of 88.5 WFDD in the spring of 2020 as an Underwriting Account Manager. Prior to moving to the Triad, he spent over fifteen years in commercial radio, as the Program Director and afternoon drive personality at WBUS in State College, PA. That's where he learned the power of the one-on-one connection that only radio provides, as a community voice, informative and entertaining medium, and comforting presence. He also served as a local elected official with the Board of Supervisors of Ferguson Township, learning how local government makes a daily direct impact on citizens' day-to-day lives. He received his B.A. in Communications from Penn State University at University Park and grew up in the city of Philadelphia. If you want to know how to properly prepare a cheesesteak, he'll know.After arriving in North Carolina, Tom became involved in volunteering for various groups, enjoying the varied southern cuisine, and re-learning his defensive driving skills. He became a fan of WFDD and is so proud to represent a brand that he believes in. Tom currently lives in Greensboro, with his partner Lauren, and their four cats, Wyatt, Tayla, Ron, and Bosco. He enjoys baking bread and making pizza from scratch, playing piano poorly, and organizing his music library, consisting mostly of music from Billy Joel.Tom has been consistently using his turn signal since 1998.
  • Gabriel Maisonnave is WFDD’s Content Director. He joined the station in 2017 as Education Program Manager, leading youth storytelling projects that earned a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award and several PMJA awards. Originally from Argentina, he has a background in international relations and peacebuilding and holds an MA in Media and Journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill. His work centers on using storytelling as a tool for connection and understanding.
