Greensboro City Attorney Chuck Watts is retiring effective immediately.

Greensboro City Attorney Chuck Watts announced his retirement Wednesday effective immediately.

Watts worked for the city for six years, and previously served as general counsel for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

In a press release, Mayor Nancy Vaughan said Watts was “instrumental” in leading the city through the COVID-19 pandemic, and other challenges.

The city council will announce his interim replacement in the coming days.

The news comes just days after Guilford County Manager Michael Halford announced his retirement.
