State officials have announced three programs aimed at strengthening healthcare technology in rural areas.
They're the result of a collaboration between the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the state Department of Information Technology.
One initiative allocates $20 million annually to help rural providers assess digital needs and modernize infrastructure.
A second program helps providers connect to the statewide health information network, streamlining the process of accessing and sharing medical records.
And the third allows rural residents to build their health literacy through online, phone-based and in-person support.
Officials say the modernization project will help bridge gaps in underserved communities and provide patients with easier navigation through the health care system.
