Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan reflects on progress made in final State of the City address

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan painted the picture of a growing municipality with major economic developments on the horizon in her third — and final — State of the City address.

Vaughan highlighted achievements like the city approving 2,400 potential housing units last year. She also listed investments from several businesses that would bring hundreds of jobs to Greensboro.

Vaughan said current and former councils' efforts helped the city recover after losing 80,000 jobs due to the Recession in 2008.

"Who could have imagined that we would be home to the Overture factory and Toyota battery manufacturer and all of the other announcements that we've made over the last few years," she said. "I am just so proud to have been part of this team as we tackle the issues that are important to the city of Greensboro as we move forward."

Vaughan announced last year she would not seek re-election. She has served as mayor since 2013.

Vaughan said her decision to step aside was not easy, but she's comfortable with her choice.
