Appalachian State University to resume classes Oct. 16 following Helene

Appalachian State University announced that classes will resume on Oct. 16 — about three weeks after Helene hit western North Carolina.

In a message to the App State community, Interim Chancellor Heather Norris stated that a “forward focus and routine” are important as the community recovers from the devastating storm.

Norris said that the university will be working with individual students to ensure they’re able to be successful this year. A Disaster Relief Hub on campus is offering financial assistance, counseling, legal services and more.

Students, faculty and staff are expected to receive more information later this week about how the university will provide support during the transition back to class.

Those returning to the Boone area are urged to limit the use of individual vehicles as much as possible, and be mindful of the county-wide curfew in place from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
