The city of Winston-Salem is finalizing its federal legislative priorities for the next calendar year.

The 2024 Federal Action Plan outlines several issues city officials think should be prioritized by federal legislators. The plan organizes those issues into eight categories, including affordable housing, public safety, and public infrastructure.

Tiffany Oliva, the city’s director of intergovernmental affairs and strategic initiatives, says one aim in establishing the plan is to secure federal grants.

“Our federal legislators can really support in providing some advocacy to help move those grants along," she says. "So we're excited about opportunities where we're able to have these federal priorities, but actually put them into action as well.”

City council is set to vote on the plan in January. Oliva says city representatives typically meet with federal legislators in the spring.
