Nearly 100 beagles bred for laboratory research at a facility in Virginia are now set to be rehomed in North Carolina.

Triangle Beagle Rescue of North Carolina in Raleigh welcomed 79 dogs from the Envigo facility in Cumberland, Virginia, Tuesday. They are among more than 4,000 to be released from the site after a court ruled the company repeatedly violated animal welfare regulations.

The Humane Society of the United States is coordinating the placement of the dogs to rescue groups across the country. In a Facebook post, Triangle Beagle Rescue said the new intakes more than doubled the number of pets in their care.

The group doesn't have a shelter or full-time staff members, so volunteers transported the dogs, arranged vet care, and placed them in new foster homes. Foster families were all trained to manage the unique needs of animals from this background.

The organization said donors provided leashes, collars, and crates for each beagle. The dogs are not yet available for adoption. The group says more updates will be provided on their social media pages.
