Mask use encouraged as Forsyth County returns to high COVID level

PAUL GARBER/WFDD

A rise in new COVID cases has led the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to elevate Forsyth County's community level to “High.”

More than 2,000 new cases have been reported in Forsyth over the last two weeks, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Back in March, with cases subsiding, the CDC dropped the community COVID-19 level to “Low.” The agency raised the level to “Medium” two weeks ago and upgraded it to “High” on Friday.

In addition to new cases, the CDC looks at hospital admissions and the number of beds being used.

At the “High” level, health officials recommend wearing masks indoors in public regardless of vaccination status. Those who are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe disease should consider avoiding public indoor activities and have a plan for testing if needed.

Free at-home COVID-19 tests are available at the county health department and all Forsyth County public libraries.

Guilford County's COVID community level remains at “Medium.”
