NC Board of Elections: Be wary of canvassers asking about 2020 voting information

GERRY BROOME / AP FILE PHOTO

The State Board of Elections is letting residents know that voting officials do not go door to door to conduct its business.

The board noted that voting officials are aware that some private individuals are knocking on doors seeking information from voters about the 2020 general election.

That's not anything that actual elections officials do. And voters should be careful about divulging information to anyone doing so.

The board issued some recommendations. They include asking anyone who comes to your residence claiming to be an elections worker to provide verification of their name and organization.

Also, it is not necessary to answer your door, let anyone inside or disclose information about your voting record to strangers who come to your home.

North Carolina registered voters can verify their information through the state Board of Elections “Voter Search” tool on their website.
