This weekend, low-income Forsyth County residents who have fallen behind can apply in-person for financial help at the Pandemic Rent & Utilities Assistance Application Fair in Winston-Salem.
The program is open to all renters who have a household income that is 80 percent or less of the area's median — roughly $53,000 for a family of four — and have been financially impacted by COVID-19.
Since April, the Emergency Rental Assistance Program has awarded $600,000 to city residents. The total amount of local funds available is $11 million.
Shereka Floyd is the Continuum of Care program manager for the city of Winston-Salem. Floyd says to date, more than 350 households have been assisted.
"We're looking for this fair to bring in more applicants, to have people on-site who can assist with those applicants who have not been able to submit documentation, and just to provide more services to the city and county residents that need assistance from this program," says Floyd.
Floyd says applicants need proof of income, identification, lease agreement, and economic impact documentation from COVID-19. The Application Fair is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Benton Convention Center downtown.
