Key NC COVID-19 Metrics Continue To Trend Downward

North Carolina's COVID-19 numbers are continuing to trend downward.

Randolph County is now the only one in North Carolina classified as red, according to the latest county alert system report. There were six earlier this month.

Seventeen counties are now designated orange, indicating substantial community spread of the virus. The remaining 82 are yellow, the least severe classification.

Case rates, hospitalizations, and test positivity rates are all down statewide. At a press conference this week, Governor Roy Cooper said given these improving metrics and increased vaccine allotments, there is reason to be hopeful.

“More and more people are getting back out and doing things. And that's positive. It's positive for our economy," said Cooper. "We just want people to make sure that they are careful and responsible — and to get vaccinated. The more people we get vaccinated, the better off we're going to be when it comes to these numbers and preventing serious illness and death.”

As of Friday, about 17% of North Carolina's adult population are fully vaccinated
