Winter weather is expected to move through much of the Triad and High Country beginning Thursday night and continuing into Friday. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for areas including Forsyth, Guilford, and Watauga counties.
Forecasters are expecting about a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation in the Triad and two tenths in the High Country, though much of it will melt as temperatures rise throughout the morning.
Kathleen Carroll, a National Weather Service meteorologist, says ice may stick in shady areas, and on bridges and railings. She advises drivers to remain vigilant even after the weather warms up.
“It is going to rain for the rest of the day so even on your evening commute, the roads are going to be wet, the visibility may not be that great, so you're just going to want to leave extra time and be cautious,” she says.
Conditions could be more dangerous in the High Country, where snow and sleet are also forecasted. Officials are cautioning those in the area to prepare for potential power outages.
