Appalachian State's Board of Trustees officially approved a five-year contract to hire Eliah Drinkwitz. He's an offensive coordinator at North Carolina State University and known for developing explosive offenses.

The 35-year-old spent the last three seasons with the Wolfpack where he also worked as a quarterbacks coach. Before that, Drinkwitz was at Boise State where he served in various coaching roles and was part of a Fiesta Bowl win in 2014.

He also worked with teams at Auburn and Arkansas State.

Drinkwitz says he and his family "are excited to embrace and build upon the proud tradition of Appalachian State football."

The Mountaineers recently won the Sun Belt title and will play in the New Orleans Bowl this Saturday.

He replaces Scott Satterfield, who left App State to coach at Louisville.

The university will officially introduce Drinkwitz as head football coach on Monday.
