Free Mobile Pharmacy Event Offers Over-The-Counter Medicines

Low-income and uninsured North Carolinians have a chance to fill their medicine cabinets at a free mobile pharmacy event Friday. The event also includes free health screenings.

It's open to everyone, and no ID or proof of income is required. The focus is on staples like vitamins, Band-Aids, cold and cough medicine as well as allergy medication.

Kristin Young is with NC MedAssist, one of healthcare partners putting on the event at Winston-Salem State University.

“We come prepared to serve 1,000 people," she says. "Each person will go home with at least eight items...they also will have to take advantage of some blood pressure screenings which will be provided by students and faculty of WSSU.”

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Donald Julian Reaves Student Activities Center on the campus of WSSU.

NC MedAssist is statewide nonprofit pharmacy that provides free prescription medications to those who are uninsured and fall at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

For a family of four, that would be an annual income of just over $50,000.
