Two From Watauga Named To State Elections Board Had Sparred

Two Watauga County officials who frequently clashed over elections issues could be taking their disagreements to Raleigh - they've both been nominated to serve on Gov. Roy Cooper's newly revamped elections and ethics board.

Democrat Stella Anderson and Republican Stacy “Four” Eggers were often on opposing sides of voting issues while they served on Watauga's board of elections.

Among their most notable spats was one over early-voting hours at a precinct on the campus of Appalachian State University. That dispute ended up going through several rounds in the courts.

Now both appear headed to the new statewide elections and ethics board. They're among the eight people Cooper suggested for the board - four Democrats and four Republicans. Also on the list is Republican Ken Raymond, chairman of Forsyth County's elections board.

Cooper has opposed the revamping of the board and continues to fight against it in court. But there hasn't been one seated since last June, and that has led to problems for the state and county offices.

The board is scheduled to have its first meeting Wednesday.
