A Cumberland County man has been charged with defrauding the Farm Service Agency.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that Hobert George Woodham Jr. is charged with converting money and property pledged to the Farm Service Agency.
U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Don Connelly said details about Woodham are not part of the court record. Connelly would not release more information about the case.
Court documents say Woodham converted more than $69,000 in crops pledged to the Farm Service Agency for his own use. The documents say the improper use of the proceeds occurred from September 2012 to March 2013.
The documents state that Woodham used that money to secure loans from the Farm Service Agency of more than $200,000.
Woodham's attorney, Suzanne Little, would not talk about the matter.
