A judge has ruled in favor of Madison, North Carolina-based Remington Arms. The gun maker was part of a wrongful death lawsuit involving the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
The families of nine of the victims and one survivor of the 2012 massacre had their case dismissed on Friday by Connecticut State Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis.
They were seeking to hold Remington accountable for selling the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle that was used to kill 20 first-graders and six teachers in Newtown, Connecticut.
The judge sided with Remington and said the lawsuit should be dismissed under the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. That's the 2005 law that shields gun makers from liability when their firearms are used in crimes.
Lawyers for the families vowed an immediate appeal of Friday's ruling.
