Across the Blue Ridge #38 - New Fiddle Tunes from Erynn Marshall

Erynn Marshall
Erynn Marshall is a major force in the current old time music scene. She’s a fiddler, folklorist, performer, teacher and tunesmith.

This week we hear some great new fiddle tunes in the constantly evolving old time style from Erynn Marshall.  This Canada-born musician has spent 20 years studying southern U.S fiddle styles in Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia. Her new album Greasy Creek is filled with her own tunes reflecting the many influences on her musical career.  Erynn Marshall talks with host Paul Brown about both why and how she has come to be a prolific and skilled tunesmith.  Also on this week's show, blues from Mississippi John Hurt, John Cephas and Phil Wiggins; and much more including a trip down memory lane with some classics of bluegrass from J.D. Crowe, Bill Monroe, the Stanley Brothers and Jimmy Martin.
