Classical Laughter With Low & Lower

Low & Lower is Winston-Salem Symphony cellist Brooks Whitehouse and bassist Paul Sharpe. They combine their virtuosity with a sense of humor, a touch of theatre and a willingness to try, well, just about anything. Along the way they've created, inspired and commissioned several new works. Brooks and Paul spoke with David Ford Live in Studio A, but they began with a performance of their original parody “A Modern Music Genius,” based on the patter song “A Modern Major General” from Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance.

They'll premiere their latest musical parody: “All About That Bass” taking Meghan Trainor's hit literally on February 6th.  And there'll be other premieres as well during their concert Low & Lower “The Musical” on Saturday, February 6th in Freedman Theatre on the UNC School of the Arts campus.

Before his arrival in the Triad, David had already established himself as a fixture in the Austin, Texas arts scene as a radio host for Classical 89.5 KMFA. During his tenure there, he produced and hosted hundreds of programs including Mind Your Music, The Basics and T.G.I.F. Thank Goodness, It's Familiar, which each won international awards in the Fine Arts Radio Competition. As a radio journalist with 88.5 WFDD, his features have been recognized by the Associated Press, Public Radio News Directors Inc., Catholic Academy of Communication Professionals, and Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas. David has written and produced national stories for NPR, KUSC and CPRN in Los Angeles and conducted interviews for Minnesota Public Radio's Weekend America.
