A Winston-Salem native is the latest winner of the state's vaccination lottery program.

At a press conference Wednesday, Governor Roy Cooper announced that 18-year-old Audrey Chavous had won the million-dollar prize. Chavous says she's still in shock.

“I kind of thought it was spam mail when I first saw it in my email," said Chavous. "Honestly I'm standing at this podium and it's still not clicking for me for some reason. I'm ecstatic – over the moon."

She says she plans to use the money to pay for her education at Fayetteville State University.

Chavous is the third winner of the million-dollar prize and the second from Winston-Salem. The first was teacher Shelly Wyramon.
